This is very easy to work once you figure out how to hold it. (There are pics how to use it and I watched the video but didn’t “get” that it was being held differently.) The impulse for me was to try to hold it sideways like any other opener and that is not how this works. The front end should be pointed to the middle of the can. It actually showed me how to use itself, when I kept trying to use it sideways and got a grip on the can, started turning the knob and it slowly turned itself until the front end was pointed to the middle of the can I was opening. It was the “ah ha!” moment.Very easy to use, feels great in my aging hands, having fun using it. I don’t eat much canned food except albacore tuna on salads and black olives, beans and tomato sauce for chili. So I’ve had two tuna salads this week just to use the opener. Very smooth edges when done cutting. The built in lifter tool is easy to use, there is no tugging and fighting with anything. So happy to have found this. Don’t know why I didn’t know about them before. I always hated how standard manual can openers eventually got some rust on them due to the contents of the can getting all over the cutting tool and having to wash it often. The can contents do not touch the cutting parts on this opener (which is why I decided to try it). Love this.

The media could not be loaded.  My right hand has a considerable strength deficiency due to 30+ years of cake decorating so I REALLY appreciate the simplicity and ease of use. It takes a little getting use to because there are no easy signs that you’ve actually opened the can! Remembering that you started on the left side of the front label and finish on the right side will help you from circling the can 10 times! (NO… I’m not admitting to thinking that I failed many 1st attempts to open my cans because I anticipated hearing a pop, ting, or finding the lid in the can!🤪) The smooth edges are so amazing that you can actually repurpose the can for craft projects or turn the “safe to touch” lids into ornaments! I 💖OXO💖 this opener!

This is the single least intuitive product I have ever come across.I will tell my story. You pick this thing up, try it on a can for a few minutes because your ego is just a bit too strong to admit you need help opening a can opener. You call in 4 more engineer co-workers, explaining how you can’t operate this device, ranging from PHDs to Master’s level geniuses. They can’t operate the device either. You crank at the problem as a team for 15 minutes before admitting defeat and watching a youtube video on how to use it. you find yourself shocked – amazed at the design and how they found a way to remove the can with no sharp edges remaining and no contact between the can opener and the food inside. You never use another can opener again. This is my story. It, too, can be yours, for only 14.99.

I’ve been using this exact can opener for about 10 years. I finally ordered a new one and put the old one out in my Westy. The original still works perfectly and once you learn how to use it you will never go back that stone aged finger slicer you’ve been using your whole life. You will only ever have two issues with this opener:Issue 1: The very first time you use it. You will scratch your head, swear a few times and have a dumb look on your face because it defies everything you’ve learned about can opener placement.Issue 2: Every person that comes to your house and tells you that your can opener is stupid and broken. If you can live with those two things then be prepared for a lifetime of hassle free can opening with the added joy of re-using the lid to seal up the rest of your uncooked baked beans from Costco. This opener is the best, period. To use (for you first timers), simply open the handles and place the can opener right over top of the can (as if the top of the can were under the default Amazon image). Move the can opener toward the can until it stops, then clamp the handle. The opener will grab ahold of the can and will not let it go. You can salsa dance and it’s not coming off. Then, easily twist the handle all the way around. You will feel it get slightly easier which means you’re done. Then take off the opener and pinch the edge of the lid with the little claw things coming off the side. Pull it right off and you’re done. That lid can now easily go back on the can for re-sealing your extras. You’re welcome.

I can’t find the reference that led me to seek out this oxo can opener. I’m quite certain that I was not seeking a new can opener, because the one that I had was working OK, and I never imagined there could be one as superior to that as this oxo version. What is so great about it?What is so great about it is that it opens a can through the top rolled edge of the lid. What is so greatabout that, you ask?The lid is left in place on top of the can and when you remove it, there is no mingling of blood from your fingers, having been sliced on that treacherously sharp and jagged edge that you had to push down into the can in order to grab the edge and pull it up, mingling blood from your cut finger with the tomato sauce that you now have to scrape off of that lid. The lid sits on top of the can—not pushed into the food inside—as though you had done nothing at all, until you lift it off, and without any slicing of fingers on sharp edges, because there are no sharp edges. It’s really like it says: a smooth edge can opener. It makes smooth edges.I love it so much and I’m finding myself thinking about what I can cook that involves opening a can. And I am not much of a fan of starting my cooking with a can.
