Lodge 10-Inch Scrub Brush

The Lodge Scrub Brush features an ergonomic design and dense bristles that make short work of cleaning seasoned cast iron without harming the seasoning. The rubber wood handle with natural lacquer finish has a plastic head with stiff nylon bristles to preserve your cookware’s finish.

Lodge recommends cleaning our seasoned cast iron with a stiff bristled brush and hot water to maintain the seasoned finish. If food particles remain, our pan (SCRAPERPK) or grill pan (SCRAPERGPK) scrapers complete the job.

100 years and still cooking. ..

Two historic events—the introduction of foundry seasoned cast iron cookware and the recent expansion of our foundry—represent dynamic examples of Lodge Manufacturing Company’s century-plus commitment to product innovation and investment in new equipment and technologies.

Seasoned cast iron propelled Lodge from the position of a regional manufacturer to the national stage, with Good Housekeeping presenting a ‘Good Buy’ Award for the product enhancement. Our appearance on the national stage expanded throughout the first decade of the new century, with record sales leading Lodge to the largest expansion in our history.

While we are proud of our recent history, there is a backstory. So travel with us to the small town of South Pittsburg, Tennessee at the end of the 19th Century. Nestled at the base of the Appalachian Mountain’s Cumberland Plateau and on the banks of the Tennessee River, the town was abuzz with new opportunities.

In 1896 Joseph Lodge began a cast iron foundry, named in honor of his minister, Rev. Joseph Hayden Blacklock. Family owned, our origins were humble and our products varied, from stoves, to skillets and kitchen sinks.

As each decade passed, Lodge developed a business model to continually update and improve equipment and foundry practices. Work was labor intensive, with all of our cookware poured and cleaned by hand.

The 1950s saw the installation new molding machinery, mechanized sand delivery systems, the construction of a gas fired aluminum furnace to cast patterns for the production of sand mold impressions and a machine to clean castings.

When the introduction of new cookware metals and coatings increased competition in the 1960s, Lodge countered with a Disamatic automatic molding machine. Two years later, Lodge added an electric furnace to operate the Disamatic molding and pouring system, outpacing the capacity of the coke-fired cupola, at lower cost.

The Clean Water and Air Acts of 1970 led American companies to install new equipment to meet the pollution control laws. Lodge accepted the standards by replacing the old electric furnaces and adding a second Disamatic molding machine.

Not only did the updates meet the requirements of the Clean Air and Water legislation, by 1976 our automated processes produced as many molds in an hour as one man’s daily productivity 30 years earlier.

With the switch from antiquated electric furnaces to more efficient induction furnaces, 1991 proved to be a pivotal juncture in the green standards of Lodge Manufacturing Company. The use of magnetic energy to produce heat changed our status from a Large Quantity Generator of Hazardous Waste to a Small Quantity Generator, and we received the 1994 Tennessee Governor’s Award for Excellence in Hazardous Waste Reduction.

Today, Lodge Manufacturing Company maintains a zero hazardous waste stream foundry, earning accolades from the environmental and manufacturing communities.

Eleven years after in the introduction of seasoned cast iron cookware, Lodge broke ground for our foundry expansion. With completion of the first phase in the fall of 2014, the expansion includes a new melt system, an additional pouring/molding line and most importantly—new American jobs!

In more ways than he could have ever imagined, Joseph Lodge would not recognize the business he started over a century ago. Lodge continues to be family owned and we are the sole manufacturer of cast iron cookware in US, producing over 120 different foundry seasoned cast iron items for worldwide gourmet, outdoor and restaurant markets.

More importantly, Lodge Manufacturing Company is universally accepted as the world leader in the cast iron cookware category.

10 reviews for Lodge Care Scrub Brush, 10 Inch, Off White

I love the feel of this, and I ended up ditching two older nylon brushes in favor of it. It’s great for regular care of my cast iron skillets and griddle-top, but it also shines as an everyday brush for dishwashing. I use it on my InstantPot lid, to get into all the little nooks and hard to reach areas, as well as on my Pfaltzgraff stoneware if they require more than a sponge will do. The handle is nice wood, the black bristle end is contoured nicely, and the bristle count is generous. The bristles themselves are a little soft, but that’s a plus for soft-scrubbing pans with salt, Barkeeper’s Friend, etc. The hole in the handle also is large enough to hang on my utility hooks alongside my other utensils. I’m really happy with the quality of this item from Lodge. They did a great job with the design and functionality.

The Lodge SCRBRSH Scrub Brush for cast iron pans works well and has a very comfortable old school wooden handle. I noticed that some reviewers had complained that they had broken their handles off. But I can’t imagine how that would be possible unless you were really wailing on it with a ton of force. It seems pretty sturdy to me. In any case, it has worked well for cleaning up my cast iron skillets. Like a lot of things I guess you could put it in the dishwasher. But I wouldn’t do that with a wooden item. As noted elsewhere you shouldn’t use this until a pan has cooled off, the bristles could melt on contact with a just off the stove pan. All in all I am a happy buyer of the Lodge SCRBRSH Scrub Brush. RECOMMENDED.

I’ve tried the scrapers, tried the kosher salt method, even tried the chain mail cleaner. This brush consistently cleans my cast iron skillet without removing the seasoning layer. Hot water and this brush – all you need. With a seasoned pan, I rarely have to “scrub” with this brush, and never have to press hard enough to break the brush! I’ve had my brush for two years, hasn’t broken, but the bristles are started to get a little frayed and stiff, so I’m buying another today. If you go cast iron, you have to learn a new way to clean and maintain. Once you learn it, and have this brush, you’ll be set. When finished cooking, keep the pan on heat, add some oil till it’s hot, then with hot water running, add some water to the pan which will boil and sizzle, which breaks up food/residue in the pan, then use brush to relatively gently break up and grind away what’s in the pan, then use the running hot water to wash it all away, then use a paper towel to dry out the pan and “spread around” that thin layer of oil that didn’t completely wash away. **NOT washing away that remaining layer of oil is THE KEY to keeping that skillet seasoned. When I started doing it this way, I really started loving my cast iron because the seasoning layer never gets lost and just continues to become more bonded with each use. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND THIS BRUSH!

    Just me

Now that I’ve finally learned out to season and treat my cast iron right, I’m glad to have found the perfect brush for my routines. The combination of this Lodge SCRBRSH scrub brush and the Lodge SCRAPERPK pan scrapers really works. After cooking with my cast iron pan, I let it cool. First I use the scrapers to removed any stuck on bits of food, then I use the brush and warm water to clean. When the pan is clean, I rinse it with a quick cold water burst. Towel it dry, heat the pan upside down for a few minutes on the burner (just to make sure every bit of water is gone… rust is the enemy). Then I put a bit of oil on the pan, spread it all over it top/bottom/handle, then I wipe it all off with clean paper towel. Another few minutes on the heat and let cool. My pans look perfect now :o) gorgeous and dark. Very happy with this brush (and the Lodge scrapers)

I read all the reviews about the handle of this thing breaking but thought I’d give it a try anyway because I got a great “add-on” price for it. It is the absolute BEST thing I’ve ever used to clean my cast iron pans!! I was able to clean the rust off of them so quickly without hard-effort scrubbing like I had to do with other cleaning items I had tried in the past. Now, I just hope and pray that the handle on mine doesn’t break anytime soon. I’m trying to prevent that by placing my hand right down by the brush with one or two fingers on top of it while I hold the handle with the rest of my hand. Sometimes I just go ahead and hold the handle because that’s what’s needed at the time. At the low add-on price, I would definitely buy another if this breaks!!

While I’ve seen some references recently on websites for using soap and water, I’m apparently old school with my cast iron, using only hot water and a brush to remove excess and bits while letting the seasoning continue to evolve and develop with each use. Had been using a good grips brush that did the job, but was difficult to get/keep the bristles clean after the fact. So when that brush reached “nasty”, I opted to give this one a try, because I’m a sucker for branded accessories for products I like and trust. Love the wood handle and how the brush feels in your hand. The bristles are just the right stiffness for flicking away and solid bits, and the brush also cleans up nicely between uses (and not just because the bristles aren’t bright white, though that certainly helps). I would definitely recommend this for cast iron fans.

Strong and effective brush works perfectly well to clean Lodge’s high quality cast iron. Wooden handle is sturdy and easy to grip. Brushes are effective on iron to clean easily and thoroughly without affecting seasoning. A nice addition to the Lodge family of products. This is a brush, not a scraper of hard-to-remove burned on food. If you scrape first, then brush, very little force is required, and you are less likely to break the brush. Lodge does sell polycarbonate scrapers that are very good. Use the right tool for the job.

I’m not sure how I’ve gone without one of these for so long! It’s wonderful. The bristles are stiff and work great! The only complaint I have (and this is minor) is that getting into corners is a bit hard. I just wish the bristles in the front were angled forward some so it could reach the edges of a pan a bit better. But other than that it’s FANTASTIC! Really holds up well, the Bristles aren’t warping. I can scrub in SUPER HOT WATER without worry, I haven’t seen a single bristle come out of the thing, and when it gets dirty I can quickly rinse it under the hot water or dip it into a soapy bowl and swish it around and it comes out neat and clean. VERY happy with the product. I’m considering getting another one as a backup!

I like to wait & use things to see how they last before I review. This brush is great for cleaning my cast iron pans. It makes it so much easier to clean them than using my scrapers or the chain mail wash cloth. The bristles are stiff but flexible so that you don’t have to press down hard. Just let the brush do the work for you. This is especially true for my cast iron grill pan. i was using a scraper to go down each ridge, yuk. The only thing is to clean the bristles after each use because it picks up the oil rubbed into the cast iron to create the seasoning. I just pour a little dishwashing liquid over the bristles & then use the brush to scrub the bottom of my sink until it’s clear. You may have to rinse & repeat. I was afraid that the top might come off the handle because it is made from wood, but it has lasted since Dec 2016. I keep it hanging on a hook next to the kitchen sink & it still looks good too.

I ordered this to clean my cast iron skillet and it has done just that. After I cook a meal, I pour water in the skillet while still extremely hot then scrub with this brush. I don’t use any dish detergent and everything still comes off. On top of that, when you pour water into a hot pan still on the stove zero elbow grease is involved. After I’ll pour out all the dirty water and I have a clean iron skillet for my next meal. I saw a lot of people break their scrub brush, I haven’t tried scrubbing extremely hard with it since I clean the skillet while it’s hot so the quality for me has been good. It’s expensive looking and super easy to clean the bristles by just rubbing and running under water.
