I bought these as a desktop speaker set, and had low expectations for sound quality. I have been blown away from the moment I plugged in this set. These may not be studio grade, but compared to what I have they may as well be.Easy to install and setup, and comes with a decent optical cable. Has settings on the right speaker for adjusting treble and bass if the defaults are not to your liking. I’d say these are worth a shot and the definite choice for replacing your desktop set.

*Update* just to reiterate, these continue to be such a joy to listen to, surprising me with the melodious sound… was just listening to Clarinet Blues by Bobby Gordon and Dave McKenna and it just sounded so beautiful. I don’t know what Edifier did but this cheap little speaker continues to impress, making listening to music a joy.———I wanted a inexpensive pair of speakers for the study. I have sound assistants (echo, nest) but the sound is tinny and lacks bass. I thought about adding an amp plus small bookshelves but it would have been a bit much in that small room. After some research, I thought I would try the Edifiers (Amazon had good ratings as did CR for a different model). I have to say I was blown away by the sound. I just had not expected them to sound so good.I have a full system in the basement for music with a Yamaha amp, Elac speakers and a subwoofer – and these of course do not match that system which costs more than 10 times the price of this system. Yet, these inexpensive little speakers sound very, very good – better than most of my hifi gear when I was growing up.The drums and guitar of ZZTop is clear and beautifully musical. Crystal Gayle or Jones vocals sound beautiful as does Camilla Cabello. Pink Floyd’s Wish You Were Here is perfect. as is a lot of classical and jazz. There are of course some songs that are not suited for these speakers – think the deep bass in Hans Zimmer’s Why So Serious – but these are typically songs where you need a sub anyhow.Just to note – I usually listen to these at moderate volume – 65 to 70db – so I cannot comment on high volume usage. The fit and finish is rather good (I got the black to match piano on which these are sitting).I wish they had Spotify connect.but the Bluetooth does work quite well, and a more visible LED light which would blink when you pressed the remote button to see if it is receiving a command. Finally – Edifier’s naming of their speakers is horrendous when trying to figure out what do buy. I wish they would have a simpler approach to naming, and to understand the differences between the speakers.Overall Summary – excellent audio performance, value for money and good fit and finish. Good for most music except songs with the deepest bass.

These were purchased to replace an older Klipsch 2.1 system i was using in my living room. For the space, I was getting decent sound, but not as full as I wanted. Now for what it is, the Klipsch served its purpose for over 4 years, but I figured it was time for an upgrade. After getting the Edifiers all set up, it was time for the big reveal. Now for my application, I pre-planned to add a Sub, and since these Edifiers were a quality over volume system, I went with a high quality subwoofer a Triad Omnisub 10. I wanted more sound than what the Klipsch 2.1 setup could provide, but I also wanted the simplicity of not needing an amp. This setup fulfilled my needs much better than I had hoped. I cannot comment on how these perform without a sub, but with my Triad, once I got them both dialed, I am truly happy with the quality and volume of the sound I am getting out of these. If you enjoy quality, full sound, that is not sharp, nor muddy these with a high quality Subwoofer will trounce any sound bar you can buy.

I waited for these to be available in black. I emailed Edifier prior to ordering and they got back to me pretty fast with an answer so I figured that was good customer service and helped secure my decision to try these speakers out. I think they sound great. Way better than my 18-year-old Bose 2.1 setup. Granted, that’s the difference between that kind of a time frame and the advancement of technology so take that for what it’s worth. The Bluetooth works great with my phone. I have them set up on my desktop and I use them every day. I love great sounding speakers but I wouldn’t call myself an audiophile. I listen to a lot of heavy metal screaming stuff, rap, oldies, and a lot of other genres except country music and these speakers sound pretty good playing all of it. I can’t complain. Super happy.

I got these to replace a 2.1 computer speaker system because I’m moving to an apartment where I’ll have neighbors below me and wanted to avoid noise complaints from the subwoofer. However I also wanted to maintain high quality audio if possible. I read reviews and watched videos comparing speaker setups that are made for PCs such as the Bose companion, Creative T100, and several compact active bookshelf speakers including the Audioengine A2+. My goal was to get a pair of speakers small enough to fit on the corners of my desk (60″ desk) that had great range and also could serve more than one purpose.I landed on the Edifier R1280DBs because they checked all the boxes: they fit on my desk (although they’re on the large side of what would fit), are active speakers with an input that works with my PC (my motherboard has an optical audio out), are multipurpose (bluetooth), and seemed to have a good frequency range and positive reviews. In the end I’m very happy with the audio quality, they work perfectly with my PC and my phone so I can use the BT option if my computer is off, and the price was excellent. I easily saved over $100 over some of the other options and have zero regrets. The last thing I’ll mention – if you are going from a system that had a subwoofer to one without like me, of course you’ll notice that the smooth rich bass you had is no longer there. However, these do perform admirably in my opinion when it comes to the lows. They still have a rich sound that fills the room and I don’t think I will miss the subwoofer all that much. If you enjoy bass-heavy music or want the rumble for gaming, they have a subwoofer out which makes them even more versatile.

With a little DIY setup, these are excellent speakers. There are nicer speakers out there, but you honestly can’t get more bang for your buck at this level. I hooked these up to my Audio-Technica AT-LP60X turntable and, with a little googling on how to do it, five minutes later I was done. I won’t go into the quality because I’m not an expert, but in my opinion, these make my records sound fantastic.

I am extremely pleased with these. I am using them as a dual-purpose PC speaker and small room entertainment speakers. I added a $70 8″ Subwoofer to this system and it enhances them even more. The highs and mids on these speakers are crystal clear and perfect for movie watching as you can hear voices small details very well. Don’t expect these to put out much bass on their own without a subwoofer, as the built in woofer is only 4″.Now for the best part.. THESE ARE AMAZING AS PC SPEAKERS. Especially for Gaming. I broke them in with Doom Eternal and Destiny 2 and holy crap.. forget buying those silly Logitech systems. I hooked up my gaming PC to the speakers with the TOSLINK/optical cables and I cannot believe the clarity and detail that comes out of them.If you want the best bang for your buck out of these – add the Monoprice 8″ Powered Subwoofer (psst – cheaper on the monoprice site and free shipping). This system is a no-brainer for anyone looking to use them as more than just TV speakers, but if that’s all you need them for then you will also not be let down by them.

These are great bookshelf speakers. If you are an audiophile, then you shouldn’t be looking at this price point. However, these have fulfilled the promise of their advertised specs. I wanted to bring out my old vinyl albums and these speakers have performed really well. So far, I’ve only used them hard wired and have not tried the Bluetooth function. I have put them on short floor based speaker stands and that enhances their sound. At this range and price point you will not be disappointed, just don’t expect monster boomer sound. Buy them and enjoy the music.

I’ve always been more of a headphone guy and I usually just buy the run of the mill Logitech’s for PC speaker duty. I had the Z2623 2.1 setup from them before this, but they died after about 1.5 years of light use. I thought they were decent for cheap. Decided to give Edifier a chance when I needed to replace them. Really glad I made that choice. These sound much nicer. I’m sure Edifier’s more expensive speakers are even better, but this is such a big upgrade from the Logitech’s and I’m completely satisfied with them. I’m by no means a critical speaker expert, but these sound so much more natural and spacious to me. I paired these with their T5 subwoofer since I wanted another 2.1 system, but didn’t want a big boomy sub. This is for a smaller office and the bass really fills the room nicely without being annoying and spilling too much into surrounding rooms. I don’t think I even have the sub volume turned past half way and it adds a great amount of low end to my music. This is the perfect setup for me to listen to music during work hours and have better sound for my gaming PC. These are cheap speakers that don’t sound cheap.

Let me first say I’m not a audiophile. However I do appreciate good sound quality. You can’t compare these speakers to a home stereo with a Bryston pre and power amps powering a pair of Kef R3 bookshelf speakers. They do however have advantages over the system just mentioned. These can easily hook to your tv by the optic cable and on the commercials you can listen to the music on your phone over blue tooth. Since it does not need all the equipment of a home stero it can move to a different room with little effort. All the different ways you can use these speakers make then a instant favorite of mine. The sound quality is very clean with no distortion. The Bluetooth is the best I have personally heard, no hum or back static When being played or in standby. Granted it is better sound listening to your phone/device using the supplied rca to aux cable. In spite of this I have found myself using the bluetooth from the ease of it. Using the Bluetooth the volume just needs to be turned up a little more. I’m amazed by these speakers. They are a quality build , With an amazing sound and multiple ways to hook them up. I am very glad I bought and that I choose the pair that have the opt/coax ports. It also has the port to attach and a sub, I am not a big bass guy and they do have enough bass that i may not add it . I highly recommend these speakers.
